My favorite birding video from 2022: a cooperative Winter Wren (Troglodytes hiemalis) at Afton State Park in Minnesota. Normally this species is reclusive and constantly on the move, but this one stuck around close enough to the trail, bopping up and down, curious at our presence long enough for me to grab some video. This was taken November 20, 2022, with snow on the ground but still open to hiking (not enough to groom for skiing).

Video shot on a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 ultra-zoom that I carry with me on our hiking adventures for incidental encounters such as this. Audio (such as it is) via the onboard microphone. These wrens have a wonderful song, a long series of short, jumbled notes, but this one was silent.
