I was checking the Aspens along the road allowance to see if any had opened their catkins (they start small and fuzzy, then elongate, exposing the tiny flowers within). I noticed some buzzing- I often see flies around these trees when in flower, flies are important pollinators of many plants- then noticed there were actually some honeybees. My first time seeing bees on these trees which are typically described as wind pollinated. Aspens and willows are the first flowering plants of the year, and catching the first pollen loaded bees was another plus (no native bees spotted yet).
