Sawing branches to get the paraglider off the tree

I made a few mistakes regarding flying on that spot at that time. It ended up in an unexpected landing with my paraglider on the trees.

The mistakes are:

  1. Wrong picture of the weather conditions.
    1. The wind was too weak, no more than 4 m/s. This means the flight altitude for this ridge-soaring flight should be low.
    2. On the other side, my buddy Anna's altitude was about 100 m, really high. Her height gave me a false impression of a substantial lift along the whole ridge.
    3. I ignored information from another buddy who had pointed out the increased thermal flows. The shallow water by the shore was warm and produced the thermal. This thermal was the reason for the 100-meter Anna's flight.
    4. Thermaling activity means we have ascending and descending flows as well. By flying too far from the area of the ascending flow, I reached the sinking air.
  2. Inaccurate flying close to the cliff. To be as close as possible to the ridge (with the hope of getting uplift), I wasn't controlling the paraglider's side and got my paraglider lines caught by a tree branch.
  3. Before flying, I should have decided to land on the water in such situations. Instead, I tried to avoid it, which caused a line to break on the tree.
