We add a huge new worktop to our galley turning it from an L shape to a large U. We add an extra, partial, bulkhead to support the worktop and add the strength lost by cutting back the original bulkhead. We lose some seating space but have a footbox under the new worktop so that we still have a full length bed in the saloon.
We had already replaced all the original galley with new worktop and sinks having stripped everything out to remove the entire gas installation, remove all the seacocks, gain access to the Whitlock steering gearbox and to fix deck leaks. However, for liveaboard cruising we decided that we needed a much larger galley particularly with space for food preparation.

We are refitting a 45year old Rival 38 for a Sustainable Sailing retirement in a few years. Two years ago, when we bought Vida she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all electric (motor, cooking etc).
