Bilge paint transforms heads: DIY Boat Refit Progress 20

time7 mo agoview0 views

After removing the wardrobes from the forward head today we got on to make it look better before we fit temporary shelving for tools and parts. That meant first cutting a hole in the bulkhead for the backing plate for the forward lower shroud. Then cutting away the remaining tabbing from the wardrobe, cleaning, sanding, acetone and then paint. By which time it was after 5pm and the promised rain had arrived. Yesterday's gravel causeway worked well when we went to B&Q for some shelf support timber and got Fish and Chips on the way back (all during heavy rain).

This is our 5th short daily vlogs of our progress during this half term.

We are refitting a 45year old Rival 38 for a Sustainable Sailing retirement in a few years. Two years ago, when we bought Vida she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all electric (motor, cooking etc). All the rigging is being replaced with Dyneema and we are significantly re-working the cabins.
