A cat in a cage This afternoon, I suddenly saw a small cage on the side of the road. A cat was sitting quietly inside. There were hundreds of questions in its eyes—“Why am I here?”, “What’s wrong with me?” The cat wanted to play under the open sky, roll in the grass, chase birds. But there were only iron fences and restrictions around the cage for it.

There was a kind of pain in its eyes, yet it was silent. Maybe it had grown tired of crying for a long time. People were passing by outside the cage, but no one stopped to look. This cat might have been someone’s pet before, or maybe it had wandered out on the street in search of food.

Keeping an animal captive can never be love for it. Love means freedom, care, and security. A cage means darkness, suffocation.

Like every animal, this cat also has feelings, desires, likes, and pain. We should be compassionate towards them, let them live freely.

খাঁচার মধ্যে একটি বিড়াল আজ দুপুরে হঠাৎ করেই রাস্তার পাশে চোখে পড়ল একটি ছোট খাঁচা। ভিতরে একটি বিড়াল চুপচাপ বসে আছে। তার চোখে যেন শত প্রশ্ন—“আমি কেন এখানে?”, “আমার কী দোষ?” বিড়ালটি যেন মুক্ত আকাশের নিচে খেলতে চায়, ঘাসে গড়াতে চায়, পাখির পেছনে ছুটতে চায়। কিন্তু খাঁচার চারপাশে তার জন্য শুধু লোহার গরাদ আর সীমাবদ্ধতা।

তার চোখে এক ধরনের কষ্ট, তবুও সে চুপচাপ। হয়তো অনেকক্ষণ ধরে কাঁদতে কাঁদতে ক্লান্ত হয়ে গেছে। খাঁচার বাইরে মানুষজন যাচ্ছে, কিন্তু কেউ থেমে তাকায় না। এই বিড়ালটি হয়তো আগে কারো আদরের ছিল, আবার হয়তো রাস্তায় বেড়িয়ে পড়েছিল খাবারের খোঁজে।

একটি প্রাণীকে বন্দি করে রাখা কখনোই তার প্রতি ভালোবাসা হতে পারে না। ভালোবাসা মানে স্বাধীনতা, যত্ন আর নিরাপত্তা। খাঁচা মানেই অন্ধকার, নিঃশ্বাস আটকে যাওয়া।

প্রতিটি প্রাণীর মতোই এই বিড়ালেরও আছে অনুভূতি, ইচ্ছা, ভালো লাগা, কষ্ট। আমাদের উচিত তাদের প্রতি সহানুভূতিশীল হওয়া, তাদের স্বাধীনভাবে বাঁচতে দেওয়া।
