On 9 May, in the very centre of Budapest, the former First Secretary of the Ukrainian Embassy, Serhiy Aleksandrov, was arrested on charges of spying for Ukraine. Most reactions were that it was a show detention in response to arrest of actual Hungarian spies in Ukraine a few days before and some kind of tribute to Putin - because the arrest happened exactly 9 May, the Russian Victory Day. Aleksandrov was subsequently deported to Ukraine but his lawyers filed a complaint in Budapest, which the court ruled... in his favour. And here the most surprising part of the story starts, because the court ordered Hungarian government to cancel the deportation order and allow Aleksandrov to leave to any country he wishes - and he chose... Russia. Aleksandrov declared no more, no less that he's a Russian citizen and want to fly to Moscow. This left Hungarian authorities - and everyone else - puzzled, because as one can logically conclude, Aleksandrov might actually a spy but not Ukrainian, and Hungarian security service now owes some serious apologies to Russian FSB.
