800 Colombians study medicine in Cuba for free, thanks to a Cuban initiative to support the peace process between the Colombian government and the FARC-EP.

Xiomi Giraldo is one of them.

She calls it “absurd” that Cuba, a guarantor country in Colombia’s peace process, is on the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism.

Xiomi is a single mother of two and one of the thousands of victims of Latin America's longest running armed conflict. She has renewed hope for her country and her family with the inauguration of Colombia’s new administration, and is grateful for the opportunity that Cuba has granted her.
