Russian state TV expert explains that "the behaviour of the Ukrainians was unsportsmanlike" because "they went in where we didn't expect them", speaking of Kursk oblast' incursion. The guy goes on to explain that "Russian victories are the result of frontal fighting against fortifications", which supposedly makes them somehow "honourable". I'll admit that the level of surrealism of the Russian narrative has reached its peak here but I won't be surprised if ordinary Russians parrot this argument from tomorrow without any reflection because I've seen it before. 1-2 years ago I was completely seriously written off as "Russians are fighting in the open field and Ukrainians are hiding in the cities", which was supposed to explain the "necessity" of razing Mariupol or Bakhmut to the ground (but the shelling of Russian bases in Belgorod is already "terrorism"). Again, one can hardly expect any reflection on the fact that it was essentially the Russians who had faithfully invaded Ukraine in 2014 and 2022, and if one looks for closer analogies, that was, after all, the Kharkiv offensive.
