A ride through Pike Place Market March 2024. The recently pedestrianized block of Pike Street has stopped people from driving straight on Pike into the market, but it is still filled with cars because parking and driving through are allowed.

Dear Seattle City Council,

I love Pike Place Market, but I don’t love the cars driving through the middle of it. They make me feel unsafe, uncomfortable, and unwelcome.

Please make the street a better experience for everyone — people walking, rolling, loading/unloading goods, and shopping, by restricting through-traffic and opening up opportunities such as more vendors, seating, art, music, or load zones. Markets around the world have figured out how to do this while maintaining vendor loading/unloading, and we can too.

If Pike Place Market made the street more welcoming and easier to shop at, I would be more likely to come and visit and spend money at the market.
