The Wild Rover is a traditional song common in Irish music but which also has some versions common to American and English folk music. Our version here is modeled after the Dubliners version (though our arrangement i a bit different). Despite the fact that this is often heard in Irish pubs on Saint Patrick's day with many glasses raised, this is really a temperance song about the dangers of alcohol and and about a young man who has given it up and changed his ways. Somehow it got taken by many as a drinking song. I've heard some blame for that attributed to the Dubliners and the rousing chorus Luke Kelly gave it, but my guess is that they weren't the first to treat the song that way.
