A cold and cloudy February day turns rainy while catching a trio of Amtrak Cascades trains. Today we're set up 15 miles south of Seattle beside the three main tracks of a portion of BNSF's Seattle Subdivision. The tracks are flat and on a tangent between Tukwila and Sumner allowing trains to easily make track speed. Amtrak Cascades service includes 12 daily trains between Seattle WA and Portland OR. One Talgo 8 trainset runs the Cascades circuit. Several temporary sets of converted F40PH NPCUs with Horizon cars coupled to a P42 are the more common sight. All of this equipment will soon be eclipsed by Amtrak Airo trains set to enter service in 2026.
