I’m Jack Wright from the Open University and I’ve made this geological map of the Hokusai quadrangle of Mercury. Mercury is divided into 15 mapping quadrangles, and whenever the Mariner-10 spacecraft flew past the planet in the 1970s it imaged only one half of the planet’s surface, and left Hokusai unimaged. Now we are able to used data from the MESSENGER spacecraft which orbitted the planet and imaged its surface completely, to make the first geological map of this quadrangle. And I’m going to take you on this tour of the quadrangle now.
