vacant takes you on a wild trip somewhere deep in the woods to the Masthill Lodge, an abandoned lodge where you play Elena Jeong and follow Priya, a seasoned ghost hunter with an internet channel about ghosthunting and you run the camera. During the exploration we learn that some 10 years ago a lot of hikers out of nowhere appeard in the abandoned house and then from one day to the next disappeared nowhere to be found and left all their belongings behind and now we want to find out more about the mysterious old house. The game has cool moody pixelart graphics for the scene and characters but sadly the characters have no faces, but that even adds to the creepy atmosphere of the old walls. There is little to no music in the game but a lot of fitting sound effects to tell about the mood of the location. Those are very silent but when you play with headphones it could be a bit better. There are absolutely no puzzles in the game and you can't even click on things, but you need to explore the house, that is pretty cool, after roaming around the story slowly unfolds until it picks up traction and gets wild, come on, join the ride or play it yourself...

Headphones strongly recommended. Many sound effects are directional for best atmosphere. Subtitles can also be enabled in the main menu or pause menu.

Play time: ~30-40 minutes

The downloadable versions provided below are better quality (and less likely to hit performance issues) than the in-browser version, but I like to make an in-browser version available since that's easier for some people. Plays in the browser on Chrome in particular are occasionally buggy in non-reproducible ways, and I simply can't debug these problems well. Also Godot audio in Chrome on Windows still has a tendency to be a little weird (although not as bad as before) - if you're on Windows, playing in Firefox or downloading it may be better overall. Sorry. I tried.
