Adding a new system call is notionally simple, but there are numerous edge cases that can confuse even senior developers. In this talk I cover the process of adding a system call including special handing for ABI compatibility layers like FREEBSD32. I will also cover the extra requirements to support upcoming CHERI extended architectures.
