My homage to Woody Guthrie. Composed spontaneously with Rico Livingston of Hyattsville, Maryland. We recorded this on our first take -- grabbing the audio from a camcorder tape.
This music is sometimes played on NPR station WAMU as part of the Capital Soundtrack initiative. http://bandwidth.wamu.org/capital-soundtrack-is-on-hiatus/
I was driving in my car and heard this coming out of the radio. I said to myself, "I know that music. That music sounds so familiar. Where do I know it from? I COMPOSED THAT MUSIC." I almost swerved my car off the road. I wish everyone had a chance to hear their music being played on the radio. It's a feeling like no other.
After composing this music, way back when, Rico turned to me and said, "That sounds like the theme soundtrack to a feel-good film."
I replied, "Yes, that's the soundtrack to a new Tom Hanks film. The only remaining thing to be done is to write and shoot the film. Whatever the film is - this music will carry it forward." Life is like a box of chocolates. Sometimes you get the sweet one.
