Silent Hiking Laguna Misterioso and Molinillo Waterfall

An August summer day spent in the Sierra Nevada and yet almost alone for all of this 6 hour hike. Lagunillo Misterioso (2700m) is very well named. The lake is extremely well hidden. It can be only be seen from a distance from a few places on the surrounding high mountain ridges. Approaching it on foot the lake is not seen until you are some 30 meters away. Visiting this lake is always a joy and its soft grassy banks are a delightful place to relax and let the stresses of modern life fade away into the background.

The spectacular waterfalls of Chorreras del Molinillo lie between 2400 and 2500 meters altitude. Although remote, in winter they are an ice climbers paradise. In spring they are worth visiting for the gushing quantity of snow melt coming down to join the Rio Dilar. Even yesterday. towards the end of a dry summer, there was plenty of water to cool off in. Remote, rough and with only faint trails to follow, its not for everyone but for adventurous hikers well worth a visit.
