The Biden administration touts its support for Cuban entrepreneurs, but has ignored their calls to lift sanctions.
Oscar Fernández owns a dried food business in Havana. But over the last few years U.S. sanctions have proved to be considerable obstacles on the road to achieving his dream: scaling up production to an industrial level and exporting his products to the United States.
“I don’t know who benefits from U.S. sanctions on Cuba, but I can assure you it does damage to a lot of people,” said Oscar. “Hopefully someday soon we can see all of the barriers removed and we can simply have relations with one another, as two neighboring countries with a lot to share.”
