A short (3 min.) experimental video I made with Apple’s iMovie from an audio excerpt from the CD interview collection "Robert Anton Wilson Explains Everything (or Old Bob Exposes His Ignorance)", Part 1 - "The Life And Times Of RAW", wherein he reminisces about the effect these films had on him in his youth, and gives his take on "the poetry of fantasy", and the power of myth.
"Thanks to a series of lucky synchronicities, I was fortunate enough to know the late, and eternally great Robert Anton Wilson. Absolute genius though he was, Bob was another Starving Artist (he used to say that if you looked at the letters of great writers and artists throughout history, most of the content of those letters was some form of “Send money!”).
So rather than spend the fees from his 'standup philosophy' tours on hotels, he would stay with "admirers” (he said the word ‘fan’ was too disrespectful). I played host to him in the spacious 2 bedroom apartment I was renting, the second story of an 80-year old house in Queens, and spent what amounted to three solid weeks with him over a three year period — one week each in ’87, ’88 & ’89— when he was on tour in the New York area.
We had a lot of great discussions over dinners and lunches in Manhattan and often at the 100 year-old Bavarian restaurant a few blocks from my in my Queens neighborhood, the Triangle Hofbrau House (obviously an Illuminati-run joint, set in a triangular intersection near the El train, with a big neon triangle on it's rooftop sign) . But ironically, in all that time, we never talked about classic horror movies — which, I only found out recently (from the interview excerpted here), he revered as much as I do.
Damn. We could have talked Gods and Monsters ..."
