As war rages on in northeastern Ukraine, volunteers and police are working together to evacuate horses from the frontlines in Kharkiv region. Special attention is given to pregnant mares, who are transported to safer areas where they can give birth away from danger. In a long-abandoned equestrian complex near the front, 28 semi-wild horses remain. Their owner fled with Russian troops after the region was liberated in September 2022, leaving the animals behind under constant threat of shelling. How do these horses survive under fire? What risks do rescuers face? And how does such a delicate evacuation unfold?
