A video made from sea ice extent, concentration and drift data to show large scale sea ice dynamics and motion on the Arctic Ocean and Barents Sea from 2017 to 2022.
It was designed to support public talks in the Norwegian Nansen Legacy Project - and explain how sea ice cover on the Barents Sea was highly variable, and did not advance or retreat evenly over seasons between sampling expeditions - instead sometimes changing multiple times!
It uses public sea ice data from: NSIDC - the MASIE sea ice edge product University of Bremen 6.25km concenrations OSISAF sea ice velocity
Bathymetry is a combination of GEBCO and IBCAOv4. Land polygons are from the Natural Earth dataset.
It was assembled using Python and ffmpeg. See: https://www.spatialised.net/cartography-as-code-cartopy/
