When I finally bough a Commodore 64, it was already 30 years too late. But I was even more disappointed when the power brick was failing.

It was the well known problem of the 5 Volt power rail slowly drifting out of specification. Better known as “the brick of death”. There was only one solution: designing a new switched mode power supply around the good old 555 timer.
