CW: sounds of butchering (but not slaughtering) pigs

This echo was recorded on my Zoom H5 with XY mic capsule on May 28, 2021, edited today. I couldn't edit almost 1hr of recording down to 36sec, so today you get 144sec (4x36).

I spent a week on my friends' farm and this is a snippet of that time when I helped butcher the pigs. Yes, that's the reality of a farm as well. The pigs you heard 2 days ago, 2 of them, a male (Alex) and a female (Betsie), were killed for food for the family and friends. At the time, they had 3 adults and about half a dozen of piglets, but I believe they stopped entirely now because it's just too pricy to raise pigs just for their own consumption. Even though my friends knew very well what they were raising the pigs for, it was still hard for them to do the slaughtering, because they love their animals. I know the killing of animals is a sensitive topic, and one could argue that there is no right way to do it because the simple fact of killing an animal is bad, but I can assure you it was done with a lot of respect for the pigs, in a quick and non-stressful way for them. So anyway, that's what you can hear in this recording, but apart from the beginning it's mostly us talking (in french) while working. And since it's a family affair, you can also hear the baby getting fussy and us trying to entertain him, which makes for quite funny moments. The music in the background was Pierre Lapointe and then Anne Sylvestre towards the end.

J'ai passé une semaine sur la ferme de mes amis, et ceci est un court extrait de quand je les ai aidés à faire de la boucherie. Oui, c'est aussi ça, la réalité d'une ferme. Les cochons que vous avez entendus il y a deux jours, deux d'entre eux, un mâle (Alex) et une femelle (Betsie), ont été tués pour nourrir la famille et les amis. À l'époque, ils avaient trois adultes et environ une demi-douzaine de porcelets, mais je crois qu'ils ont complètement arrêté depuis, car c'était tout simplement trop cher d'élever des porcs uniquement pour leur propre consommation. Même si mes amis savaient très bien pourquoi ils élevaient les cochons, l'abattage était quand même difficile pour eux, car ils aiment leurs animaux. Je sais que tuer des animaux est un sujet sensible, et on pourrait dire qu'il n'y a pas de bonne façon de procéder, car le simple fait de tuer un animal est mauvais en soi, mais je peux vous assurer que cela a été fait avec beaucoup de respect pour les cochons, rapidement et sans stress pour eux. Enfin bref, c'est ce que vous pouvez entendre dans cet enregistrement. Mais à part au début, c'est essentiellement nous en train de parler en travaillant. Et comme c'est une affaire de famille, on entend aussi leur bébé râler et nous essayer de le distraire, ce qui donne des moments assez drôles. En fond sonore, on peut entendre la musique de Pierre Lapointe, puis d'Anne Sylvestre vers la fin.
