What a delightfully intriguing story this game has. Got my interest from the second I arrived at the gate to the tunnel to get into my new job as engineer to fix a boring machine. And from there things get mysterious, esoteric. You meet interesting townsfolk in the tunnel and get deeper and deeper into some kind of conspiracy and secret operation. The graphics are simple pixelart in 10(?) very saturated colors but they look good enough to keep your interest and show everything that is needed. There are some additional colors through the transparency effects on the floating letters. There is music but it is so subtle and unobtrusive you hardly notice it. The controls are with the keyboard only, so there is no pointing and clicking with the mouse but it is an adventure all right. The sound effects are louder, every footstep has a pc speaker sound, but the machine is even louder. There are no real puzzles (or I solved them subconsciously) except finding out where to go and who to talk to, but that is in a very nice flow with the story.

Synopsis: Use the arrow keys to move around, 'Z' to interact and go to the next text bit, and the Number Keys to select dialogue options. Mouse-clicking also works for selecting dialogue options and going to the next text bit. Press F11 to leave full-screen.
The game can't be saved (maybe in a future update!). It's quite short, though :)
about... This game was originally commissioned for the bundle-zine Indiepocalypse #35, that you should definitely check out!
The State sent you to work on The Tunnel, but it's not what you expected. The Machine is not drilling. It's doing something else... something weird. And what do the people living there want with it?
"The Tunnel" is a top-down adventure game, rendered in 16-color pixel art, inspired by the fiction of Franz Kafka and the SNES/Super Famicom game Ihatovo Monogatari.
