On the night of 23-24 April 2025 Russia conducted a mass bombing campaign on Ukraine's capital Kyiv using a combination of ballistic and cruise missiles, and assault drones. The missiles exploded in residential areas around 01:00 in the night, resulting in destruction of several multi-family buildings. The Shevchenkivskyi, Holosiivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Podilskyi districts of Kyiv were impacted by the attack. As of the morning 10 civilians were confirmed dead and over 70 wounded. Kremlin's official narrative for the Western audience remains that its armed forces do not conduct attacks on civilian population and either do not comment on evident cases when they do, or claim these were "military targets". Russian politicians and propagandists have frequently called for and approved of hits on the civilian population and infrastructure of Ukraine, using retaliatory or genocidal rhetoric for the internal audience.
