Russell Bentley was a deeply disturbed American man who declared communists views, joined Russian armed forces in Donbas in 2014, obtained Russian citizenship in 2021 and supported them all the way through the full-scale invasion. On 8 April 2024 Bentley was murdered by the same Russian soldiers he continuously supported. The perpetrators are known by name, but the criminal case was closed and his body was never found. Russian military volunteer and propagandist Tatyana Montyan explains that his body was dumped into one of the secret mass graves used by Russian forces in Donetsk but because the graves hold bodies of so many people otherwise considered "missing" there's zero appetite among the Russian occupational authorities to start any official proceedings around it.
