Many people are scared of wasps and Bald-faced Hornets (really big wasps with a bad reputation!) are even more intimidating! Here in the country I don't have any trouble with them, unless I disturb a nest (I try not to, maybe that subject deserves a video..). I'm often gardening or doing other work outside where they are hunting or pollinating, and no problems. They have some important roles in the enviroment- as scavengers (you don't want to think about the smelly mess we could have outdoors without the host of scavengers nature provides!), predators on other insects that might prey on plants! and as pollinators.
I find they are always looking for water if it's warm and dry- even here, which is not an especially dry place, there may not be water available every day. I put out some pans etc ( see earlier vid) and buckets with water for these guys, other insects (native bees are much less interested, they must get enough water from nectar) and even birds-- I don't see birds using the water super often, but I do at times. It is crucial to have plenty of sticks, branches, grass etc in the water so that any creatures accessing it will not fall in and drown (some insects still will, go figure!). Alternatively you can have shallow and or angled water sources so the drinkers can walk back out to a dry part- but those can need filling much more often.
