Windows Vista. The name alone is legendary in tech circles... for all the wrong reasons. It's remembered as slow, bloated, and a buggy mess. But what if the problem wasn't Vista? What if it was just forced onto low-spec hardware that wasn't ready for its ambitious Aero interface and new features?
To test this theory in 2025, I'm building a period-correct, high-end PC from 2009. This is the kind of machine that should have been able to run Vista flawlessly we're talking a powerful i7 processor, plenty of RAM, and a beefy DirectX 10 graphics card.
Join me on devwithzachary as I hunt down the parts, build this 2009 "dream machine," and install a fresh copy of Windows Vista Ultimate. We'll find drivers, enable all the glassy Aero effects, and even try some era-appropriate gaming (Crysis, anyone?) to finally answer the question:
Was Windows Vista a misunderstood masterpiece, or was it really the disaster everyone remembers?
