Vorticella Bossa Nova

What creature is this? Vorticella! That's as much as I know. Maybe you know more about it.

Where did this sample come from? Sandy and I went to a few ponds nearby. These are cool ponds, they used to be quarries, then were turned into nature preserves in the 70s. Now, over 50 years later they are vibrant and important to the local birds.

When we got the sample there was still a layer of ice over the ponds. We found a good rock, smashed some ice, and took a sample near the roots of some long dead grass.

How did I get it to look like that? Put simply, colorful semi-transparent plastic and opaque plastic/cardboard are added into the light path before it hits the slide. I adjust how much of these and where to get a 3d effect and to choose the background color.
