Understanding Linux File and Directory Permissions

time5 mo agoview3 views

Linux is a true multi-user system and the security it is renowned for owes much to the way it deals with permissions for files and directories.

This video is something of a tutorial, aimed at users who are either relatively new to the Linux world, or who just want to improve their knowledge.

I start by looking at users and groups, before moving on to look at how users and group permissions are defined.

I also demonstrate the use of the chown and chmod commands, and briefly touch on setuid, setgid and the sticky bit.

I hope everyone enjoys this and know it's quite long. But a tutorial should never be rushed.

Ramble on!!!
