We often hear people complain about how expensive transit, cycling and pedestrian projects are, but there’s very little debate when it comes to building new roads and highways. Part of that is because we never seem to really think about the costs of driving, maybe because you can just get into a car and drive on most roads for free.

But this new study out of Harvard puts a number on the “driving economy” and it’s staggering in its costs.
