Is it the greatest tune ever written? NO! Nonetheless, I am the proud parent of a new baby jig. 😉 She is slightly over one month old. Born November 10, 2024. She woke me in the middle of the night. Hence, the title. Be gentle.

Oddly enough… despite my claims of not being able to read music, having tried for decades, I’m finding that, through Irish music, it’s s-l-o-w-l-y seeping in… a little… finally. Because there are now so many Celtic tunes rattling around in my head, when someone says “Out on the Ocean” I find my memory betraying me, and I have to ask “How does it start?” And I’m finding that, for the first time, sheet music is actually helping a bit: “Oh. I see. 6/8. So, jig. Two sharps. So, I can play it on the Irish flute, and don’t need the silver. First notes are… D… C♯… No… wait… Every… Good… Boy… Boy! B… Ah! Got it. Now I know which tune we’re doing.”

So... now, with the help of LilyPond, ABC and MuseScore, I'm learning to reverse the process...
