@pre@boing.world does a five minute tarot reading to investigate and finds that the privatisation was supposed to bring investment, but instead crafty conservative businessmen and irresponsible financial government conspired to drain the capital from the company through loans, leaving the company in strife and debt, the outcome will be a bail-out for the company's rich shareholders, and a stronger capital class.

Today is the 9th of April 2024 and this week, Thames Water has defaulted on it's debt! What will the Londoners drink? Is it back to Gin?

We'll do a five minute tarot reading to find out.

The first card represents the past, and that card is the 9 of Pentacles, Gain.

The initial privatisation of the water companies was supposed to reward investment from the private sector.

The expectation was that this was an opportunity for wealth to gain earnings and prosperity from profusion of investments in customer satisfaction

The guaranteed money was supposed to incentivize the realisation of future investment.

The promise was future rewards, if private capital would pay to improve the service.

Hidden Influence - 14 Of Pentacles, King

Up next is the Hidden slot, and there we have the King of Pentacles!

The fundamental problem with the plan is that conservative entrepreneurial corporate businessman are crafty ideological effective economical money extraction machines.

They don't really believe in credible meticulous financial development.

They just want a systematic efficient resource extraction system for billionaires.

External Influence - 12 Of Wands, Knight

In the External slot we have, the Knight of Wands!

The system was set up by reckless insatiable irresponsible felons like the conservative government.

They are infatuated with private capital, inconsiderate of the needs of the people, rash and naive about the environment, and have an obsessive longing for powerful efficient innovative wealth extraction plans.

Present - 5 Of Wands, Strife

That leads us to the present moment, and the card representing that is the 5 of wands, strife.

This controversial financial attack on the water system causes animosity towards customers, pressure from debtors, distrust and dispute with staff, unease and upheaval.

The contradiction between financial extraction and service provision causes conflict stress and struggle.

And indeed, the share-holders borrowed too much, paid it all out in dividends to the rich, and so the company is bankrupt.

Outcome - 8 Of Trumps, Strength

Where will all this lead? The Outcome is represented by the eight Of Trumps, Strength.

The system of wealth extraction for those in power will become more potent.

So, bailouts for the rich, most likely.

A courageous patriotic sacrifice by the people, to produce a generous bailout for the crooks who drained the company of it's entire worth.

I mean honestly , our expectations for any kind of punishment of the financial criminals should be low.

Not only will they get away with it, they will be stronger, taking our money and then being bailed out.

Again and again. This is what privatisation means.

The rich get strong, and the poor pay for it.

Summary

In summary then, the privatisation was sold on the lie that it would cause investment through promising rewards of financial gain for capital.

But the capital is a meticulous resource extraction machine for billionaires, and the government who should constrain them are reckless ideological irresponsible felons.

The result was debt, resource extraction, and bankruptcy for the company.

The crooks in power will just bail out the financial criminals, leaving them stronger and us all weaker.

That's what the cards tell me to expect anyway.
