Sven Olof Joachim Palme who served as Prime Minister of Sweden from 1969 to 1976 and 1982 to 1986 opposed to the Vietnam war and his fierce condemnation of the Christmas Bombings of the North Vietnamese cities of Hanoi and Haiphong led to a breakdown in diplomatic relations at the highest level between Sweden and the United States.
