Panasonic FS-JH1 Joy Handle MSX

Virtual racing setups are a big thing now, but what about poor MSX owners?

And here we are with the Panasonic FS-JH1 Joy Handle, a steering wheel released in Japan for the MSX range of computers. And, it’s huge. I’m having to use a different setup for my camera so I can show it off properly.

On the front, we have the steering wheel which has two buttons, it’s kind of a cool half wheel, like futuristic sports cars always had and a fake instrument panel behind the wheel. To the left we have, possibly the more interesting part, this gear stick looking thing actually works as a normal joystick, the two buttons are just duplicates of the two on the steering wheel and these sliders set an auto fire mode on each button.

If we spin this around, we can see on the back theres a DIN socket. This, seemingly, was for a set of pedals that were never released.

Now, as I mentioned before, this is huge. Originally, you were supposed to put a monitor on top, instead we’re going to put this lovely MSX2 computer there. A Panasonic FS-A1 and, it’s in matching colours.

Officialy, there is one game designed to be used with the wheel. A1 Spirit, a modified version of F1 Spirit. But, it’s possible Outrun and F1 Spirit 3D Special have some compatibility too, so we’ll try those out.
