Ethernet networks are electrical systems and are impacted by electrical grounding, ground loops, radio frequency, and electromagnetic interference. UTP cabling can be subject to crosstalk, near-end and far-end reflections that can corrupt Ethernet frames. Learn how ethernet networks avoid ground loop problems and better understand the importance of electrical grounding in your IDF and MDF network closets.
We will look at shielded cables and the six types that can be installed to minimize electrical noise and interference for ethernet in harsh environments. I will demonstrate RFI with a small radio and a Chromebook. We will investigate fiber optics as an option for addressing cable length limitations, noise, and interference problems. How to properly choose optical transceivers and tips for PoE media converters.
