Skabeeva "We already invaded Ukraine 8 years ago", 2022

One of the popular points of disagreement in Russian nationalist circles was whether Russia should conduct full-scale invasion on Ukraine in 2014, along with annexation of Crimea. One side claimed it was possible because Ukrainian army was weak, another said Putin's decision to pretend "we are not there" was correct as Russia needed to prepare its supply chains and financial backups for the full-scale war. In this program, aired on Russian state TV in early 2022, before the full-scale invasion, one participant argues it would not work because "you can't invade Ukrainian because their army is now strong", while the host Olga Skabeeva emotionally argues that "how can't we invade now if we already invaded eight years ago". As a reminder, since 2014 Russia consistently maintained that it has no military presence in Ukraine and the war in Donbas was an "internal conflict", a narrative that was supported by many Western politicians. At the same time it was obvious for most Russians that it's their army fighting in Donbas and the "pro-Russian guerilla" is purely propaganda picture that has no relation to reality.
