A classic picture in Russian province - local residents perform a mandatory "patriotic march" with flags and Soviet songs, walking through heavily damaged road, full of mud and puddles, among decaying ruins of old buildings. Such events on 9 May and other important dates are usually coordinated by the local councils and participation is mandatory as a minimum among public sector (school, healthcare, administration etc) workers who otherwise risk repressions and ostracism.
