Regular clothing (not cycling gear) while winter cycling through subzero polar vortex

There's an impression out there that riding a bike through subzero temperatures requires all kinds of special gear. So on a recent cold snap, I went out in -27 C (-16 F) on my bike to test if you can ride a bike while wearing normal clothes. In other words, I tested if you can dress for the destination, rather than the journey, even during a polar vortex.
