1929's The Mysterious Island was a partial talkie. Originally shot mostly in color. The color version survives in a private collection and was screened in 2014. Hopefully we will be graced with the release of a color copy eventually!

It was 3 years in the making! It was converted to color and to a sound film in it's 3rd year of production. It is nominally an adaptation of Verne's Mysterious Island, but only nominally.

In the meantime, the film is in the public domain in the United States as of Jan 1 2025. It stars Lionel Barrymore of the Barrymore acting dynasty, the great uncle of modern actress Drew Barrymore. It's not bad, in the grand scheme of things.
