Putaria – The Body as Catharsis is a dramaturgy in two acts. The work draws on Brazilian funk as a guiding thread, interpreting Brazil’s colonial history and its continuous echoes. It highlights “the savage” mentality – a widespread fantasy rooted in the first expeditions to the “New World.” In close dialogue with the establishment of Catholicism in Brazil as a legitimation for colonization, the work reflects on how imposed morals have shaped the self-image and values of this culture. And therefore, how (historical) violence reflects itself in pop culture today as a new kind of poetics. Music and dance become acts of resignification. DJ by Almarcito.
