GENOSHA – Chapter II In times of deepening social rifts, you can hole up in your social bubble, pull the information-dampening blanket over your sheltered head and hope that everything will be fine. But what does this "good" mean for whom? Am I not perhaps doing well because others are paying for it with their lives in case of doubt? Is my reassuring prosperity based on the poverty of others? Would that even be okay because I don't even know - want to know - the others? Or do I understand the anger of others and am I right to fear their anger, which is based on sheer desperation?

We submit to our own economic systems, moan here and there about our miserable lives, in which only the others earn money, and silently wonder why everything is getting out of hand. Without even having an eye for the least of these, we entrench ourselves in our world and spend the rest of our lives trying to pull together everything that seems possible. We compensate for the lack of consideration for the resulting losses by numbing our senses, hiding from the crushing weight of bad news behind a variety of reward systems and diligently collecting points.

Between doomscrolling and "you should have", we feel the increasing pressure, but have optimised ourselves to perfection in dealing with annoying facts. We have made ourselves comfortable in the oasis of our agony. Sure, the mob is somehow right, but hey, they won't get in here. At some point, someone will have to pay the price for all this, but not us, baby.

"BEHIND THE BANLIEUE" is the second single from the album "GENOSHA" by maximum alternative rock band PORTER from the Ruhr area, which will be released in early 2024. After the first single "TAX FREE HOLLOWS", the song continues the band's thematic focus in its critical view of an increasingly divergent society and, after the progressive first song, reveals another musical facet of their work with this straight rocker.

GENOSHA – Kapitel II In Zeiten der sich vertiefenden gesellschaftlichen Gräben, kann man sich in seiner sozialen Bubble verschanzen, die informationsdämpfende Decke über den behüteten Kopf ziehen und hoffen, dass schon alles gut wird. Doch was bedeutet dieses „gut“ für wen? Geht es mir nicht vielleicht deshalb gut, weil andere im Zweifel sogar mit ihrem Leben dafür bezahlen? Baut mein beruhigender Wohlstand auf der Armut der anderen auf? Wäre das sogar okay, weil ich die anderen nicht einmal kenne – kennen will? Oder verstehe ich, die Wut der anderen und fürchte mich mit recht vor ihrem Zorn, der aufbaut auf schierer Verzweiflung?

Wir unterwerfen uns unseren eigenen Wirtschaftssystemen, jammern hier und da über unser klagvolles Leben, an dem immer nur die anderen verdienen und wundern uns stumm, warum alles aus dem Ruder läuft. Ohne auch nur einen Blick für die Geringsten übrig zu haben, verschanzen wir uns in unserer Welt, und versuchen den Rest unseres Lebens alles zusammenzuraffen, was uns möglich erscheint. Die fehlende Rücksicht auf die dadurch entstehenden Verluste, kompensieren wir mit der Betäubung unserer Sinne, verstecken uns vor der erdrückenden Last schlechter Nachrichten hinter mannigfaltigen Belohnungssystemen und sammeln fleißig Punkte.

Zwischen Doomscrolling und „man müsste mal“ fühlen wir den steigenden Druck, haben uns aber in Perfektion optimiert im Umgang mit lästigen Fakten. Wir haben es uns gemütlich eingerichtet in der Oase unserer Agonie. Klar, hat der Pöbel irgendwie auch Recht, aber hey, der kommt hier schon nicht rein. Irgendwann einmal muss bestimmt jemand den Preis für all das zahlen, aber doch nicht wir, Baby.

“BEHIND THE BANLIEUE” ist die zweite Single-Auskopplung aus dem Anfang 2024 erscheinenden Album “GENOSHA” der Maximum Alternative Rockband PORTER aus dem Ruhrgebiet. Nach der ersten Single “TAX FREE HOLLOWS” setzt der Song die thematische Ausrichtung der Band, in ihrem kritischen Blick auf eine sich immer weiter auseinander entwickelnde Gesellschaft fort, und offenbart nach dem progressiven ersten Song mit diesem straighten Rocker eine weitere musikalische Facette ihres Schaffens.

“BEHIND THE BANLIEUE” erscheint am 22. Dezember 2023 auf allen Streaming-Plattformen.
