Photography is like a cup of tea and a biscuit

time1 yr agoview35 views

When social media moved away from posting snapshots of moments, and pushed everyone to post video, something very fundamental changed. Photos are passive. You walk through them at your own pace. You pause to contemplate an idea, or recall your own experience that connects to the photo. Video in comparison will consume your attention. Especially edited video. Fast edits. Loud edits. No time to absorb. It's aggressive and dominating. Videos yell at you... Photography invites you in for a cup of tea and a biscuit. – Ewen Bell

I’ve dropped a few images into this video from my last exhibition, held during the BIFB in 2019. I organised this exhibition to raise awareness of habitat conservation in the Himalayas. It features birds and culture from Bhutan. The project and exhibition was sponsored by Panasonic Australia and their LUMIX cameras. I took Australian TV personality to Bhutan for ten days, and he captured images with the new LUMIX S1R. All of my images were captured with the LUMIX G9. I have only featured my images from the exhibition in this video. You can see more of the birds and the companion book on my website here: https://ewenbell.com/bifb
