Tamiasciurus hudsonicus the North American Red Squirrel is very common here in the Boreal Mixed Woods of Central Alberta. They are generally solitary and defend their territory aggressively (i.e. lots of noise, and chasing interlopers of their own kind). Those near the house or work areas don't say much if I'm close by, but this one farther out on the farm is not used to human presence. I didn't get too close, this was zoomed, but it still decided I was too close for comfort and zipped up the nearest tree, leaving behind a little pile of spruce cone scales after eating the seeds (their primary food here).
