MC-DIW is an NGI Sargasso collaboration led by 3CL (Malta) and the Commonwealth of Learning (Canada). The project explores how microcredentials can be securely stored, verified, and shared across borders using digital identity wallets—specifically between the EU’s upcoming Digital Identity Wallet and British Columbia’s digital trust services.
The project addresses real-world needs: portable skills recognition, labor mobility, lifelong learning, and interoperability between education and employment systems. By examining how digital credentials can move seamlessly from Europe to British Columbia and remain verifiable, MC-DIW lays groundwork for a more inclusive, trustworthy, cross-border credentialing ecosystem.
