My Solarpunk Charging Station

time7 mo agoview64 views

I got myself some LiFePO₄ battery storage for a couple of solar cells that I have set up on the terrace outside my office/studio/wokshop with the plan of eventually getting more panels and a bigger inverter to completely power all my gear.

In the meantime I built myself a charging station for any devices up to 20V, which also includes a fast wireless phone charger and an e-ink based power monitor.

With this setup I can can simultaneously charge power tool and any other batteries, tablet(s), phone, laptop, robot vacuum and whatnot. So far I've gone to around 150W (in addition to all the stuff plugged into a 230v inverter). Oh, and our main router is permanently plugged in too, making it a lot more stable than when using the slightly temperamental grid here in rural Spain.

The cheapo non-sinewave inverter is powering my DJ setup and workbench (mostly bench power supply and 3d printer, occasional soldering iron usage is fine, hot air gun sadly not), but does not have the oomph for my desktop computer and music gear yet...

If you watch the video until the end you'll see the e-ink display do its periodic update.

Oh, and the soothing jazzy sounds in the background were from Randy Resnick's Lockdown Jazz, playing on The Indie Beat Radio...
