This is a super interesting item, and very cool too! I’d say it dates to about the late 90s, and as such there are probably very few to no surviving B2B listings of it. I got this in my big chinafake lot, it needed some cosmetic touch-ups but you can watch those in the unboxing video. The “WM” factory ID on the license plate made me think Wei Mei, as they were active around about this time and made some very similar looking things. Wei Mei is a Taiwanese company, but it’s possible they moved their operation to Mainland China as did a lot of other similar companies around this time. However, that theory is completely thrown by the “MR” logo on the battery cover. Perhaps Wei Mei changed their logo at some point? Anyways, I had to film both songs separately as the “MUSIC SELET SWITCH” (as the box calls it) was being a bit finicky. The switch simply controls speaker output, both chips run simultaneously, so when you switch to a song it doesn’t start from the beginning because the chip is already running “in the background”, not unlike a lot of those egg laying chinafakes with their multiple chips. This is one of the very few BNGs packaged like this, this sort of packaging is usually reserved for friction/wire control stuff. You will see BNG stuff in this packaging and friction/WC stuff in a proper box, but it was a lot more common to see stuff like that in the “wrong” boxes back around the turn of the millennium. Anyways, this item is super cool and I like it a whole lot! It’s definitely a unique bit of chinafake history and I’m very happy to have it so I can document and preserve it!
