Minecraft is a sandbox game, it gives you lots of freedom. You can create things, visit new places and alter the world you see. Unless you opt to do so, there’s no real win state. Some people enjoy playing in survival mode, which involves resource collection, health and hunger management, and enemies that emerge at night. Others prefer creative mode, in which you can build with any material without restrictions.

The game also has basic graphics, but it doesn’t appear to be a problem for most players. What really makes the difference is what you can make out of the set of tools that the game gives you. You could instead construct elaborate creations, basic houses, or even something that acts as its own contraption through redstone, the game’s system for wiring and logic. The game also has a vibrant community around it. There’s praise for mods, building and maps, all shared by other players in the community. It adds some variety and makes the game remain interesting over time.

Multiplayer is another reason people stick around. You can enter servers with distinct games, rules, or objectives. Some are competitive, some cooperative and some building. You can play alone or with others, and both seem to work fine. Minecraft is also accessible at first, meaning it is relatively easy for newbies to get into. But there’s enough depth there to remain interesting through many hours. It is accessible to people of different ages and abilities. The game is not at all a reaction based game nor does it need any button timing unless you are trying to do something like that.
