Mario Party 2 - Destruction Duet in 7 seconds (TAS)

Archived Kimimaru4000 video from YouTube. Original description mostly intact:

This video is a TAS (Tool-assisted speedrun) of Mario Party 2 in which I control Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Mario, and Luigi at the same time in Mario Party 2 to destroy the statue as quickly as possible in the minigame Destruction Duet. There are 3 variations, called Types, of the minigame; this is Type 3, the most difficult one.

Low jump kicks are the most effective way to break the statue because of their power and speed. In the video, all four characters are performing frame-perfect jump kicks. The earliest you can perform the kick is 1 frame after the A button was pressed. Before each jump, barring the very first one, I run for 1 frame to gain enough speed to reach the statue.

There is an oddity that enables two characters to be close to each other and still kick the statue. Both characters have to be moving towards the statue and perform jump kicks on the same frames. I did this with Mario and Luigi. For reasons unknown, they managed to bump against each other despite being far away visually, resulting in Mario being too far to hit the statue with his next jump kick.

This trick will not work if both characters are extremely close to each other and one of them has kicked the statue; they must both be right up against the statue. I was originally planning on having Yoshi be on the right side of the statue and have Mario go next to him, but when Mario started his first jump kick it would interfere with Yoshi's jump, causing him to be too far to hit the statue. I tried to put Mario and Yoshi as far as possible, but it simply didn't work out.

I also made sure Mario ran against the statue a few extra frames so he would face against it perfectly. If I didn't do this, the recoil from the jump kick would launch him at a slightly rightward angle, making him unable to hit the statue next time.

All in all, Yoshi and DK's inputs are optimal, but I have no doubts that this can be done faster by moving Mario and Luigi more efficiently.

Enjoy!
