My work provides an optimistic view of technology’s role in shaping our identity and relationships with each other. The subjects are strangers to me, just as they are to the viewer of the finished work. Being a visual artist, I use my eyes to learn about the person, and in the process find commonalities between us. Knitting (a form of binary code) is included because of its continuous flow of fibers that mirrors our interconnectedness as people. These pieces are created using new and old machines. You can find out if yours are being used at haveibeentrained.com . The thing is their robots can’t make anything without our art being used to train them. Why should I be forced to provide the core product of my business to develop the core product of another business? It’s like they own a buffet restaurant at the strip mall and stocked it with stolen ingredients. That’s not ok why would this be ok? They should have just used open source copyright free images like they did with their ai music generator dance diffusion. Then we’d be having a different conversation.
